Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. Roberts is the fourth Roberts generation to live in Atlanta, beginning with her great-grandfather, a farmer John Pendleton Roberts. The Robertses' father was interested in theatre from an early time. In 1952, while being a student at Emory University, he performed on stage in various productions around Atlanta. In 1953, he joined the Air Force. He was stationed in Biloxi in Mississippi, he acted in an production along with Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their baby son Eric Anthony, was born in the year 1956. In 1957 the couple left the air force and Walter began his studies at Tulane University in New Orleans Louisiana. Walter started working at Atlanta Academy Theater and Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio in 1960. The year 1964 was when Walter as well as Betty Lou began production on an on-sunday morning local children's television program called Bum Bum and His Buddies that they designed and funded. Later that year they founded the Actors and Writers Workshop which operated for a period of six years. They welcomed in 1965 two children to the family: Lelisa Billingsley and Julia Billingsley.
