Nadia and Carol

Nadia Comaneci is a Romanian gymnast (born on the 12th of November, 1961 in Gheorghe Gheorghiu Dej [now Onesti] Romania). She was the first to achieve a perfect 10 on an Olympic occasion. Bela Karolyi later Romanian Gymnastics Coach discovered Comaneci at just 6 years old. The first time she competed at the national junior championships in 1969 and finished 13th. She won the competition in the year 1970. At her first international meet, which was a preolympics junior competition for nations in the Communist bloc, she won 3 gold medals. And in 1973 and 1975, she was awarded the All-around Junior Champion. She won four gold and one silver medals in her first international competition for seniors, held in 1975. It was the first time she competed as an older senior. The year was 1976 when she won the American Cup at the New York City Olympic Games and became the first woman in history to dismount the parallel bars with backwards double salto.
